Crimson Shard aka Fiendshard aka Red Kalaydrian Crystal

Crimson shard is found beneath the earth, typically growing on volcanic cavern walls, near layers of magma or sulfur vents. It can be found throughout Golarian, but is particularly concentrated in areas with fiendish activity, such as at the WorldWound. The crystal has a dark to bright red hue, with writhing crimson-black veins running throughout. Items adorned with or containing crimson shard have an inclination to absorb evil and fiendish magic. Psionacists do not use this particular shard, as they find the energy too draining and corrupting to work with it. Though, it has been rumored to have value to those that dabble in the darker aspects of psionics.

Recently, it has been discovered that Formians have begun using it to augment their powers and to create strange insectile abominations. There is speculation that these techniques are being used to aid the Red Hand of Doom armies appearing in the north of Andoran, in the area known as Alyria. Rumors suggest that orcs and other creatures have been psionically mutated with the corrupting power of the crystals.
